Buy-back and trade-in: how your figure is calculated

The question clients ask most before buying jewellery is not "how much" but "how much will I get back". In many places the answer depends on who is at the counter that day. At Kim Bảo Minh Châu it is a published formula.

Buy-back versus trade-in

• Buy-back: you sell the piece and receive money.
• Trade-in: you exchange it for a new KBMC piece. Because you keep buying, deductions are lower.

Metal

Metal value = fine-gold weight × 9999 buying price × (1 − deduction)

Deductions cover testing, cleaning and refining. 24K gold barely needs refining, so its deduction is very low.

Stones

From the second year after purchase, rates fall by 5 percentage points a year.

Labour is not refunded

Labour is the cost of turning gold into jewellery. When a piece comes back, KBMC must refurbish or melt it, so labour is not counted. That is why buyers saving in gold choose low-labour 24K, while buyers of jewellery to wear treat labour as the price of the design.

An 18K ring in year one, 3.20 g of metal, a natural diamond at 20 million VND. Assume a buying price of 14 million VND per chỉ:

Three things to bring

1. The piece with its laser code. KBMC finds the original record by code; no paper invoice needed.
