How to measure your ring size at home in five minutes

A ring that fits can be worn all day without spinning or leaving a mark. Getting the size right from the start saves a resize after delivery.
Method 1: measure a ring that already fits
- Pick a ring that fits the finger you plan to wear the new one on.
- Lay it on a ruler and measure the inner diameter, inside edge to inside edge.
- Compare with the table below.
Method 2: measure with string or a paper strip
- Wrap the string or paper strip around the base of your finger, snug but not tight.
- Mark the point where the ends meet.
- Measure the marked length; this is the circumference of your finger.
- Compare with the circumference column below.
Conversion table
- US 5: diameter 15.7 mm, circumference about 49.3 mm
- US 6: diameter 16.5 mm, circumference about 51.8 mm
- US 7: diameter 17.3 mm, circumference about 54.3 mm
- US 8: diameter 18.1 mm, circumference about 56.9 mm
- US 9: diameter 18.9 mm, circumference about 59.4 mm
Tips for an accurate reading
- Measure at the end of the day, when fingers are at their largest.
- Avoid measuring with cold hands or right after exercise.
- If your knuckle is wider than the base of the finger, choose the size that just slips over the knuckle.
- Bands 4 mm or wider sit tighter; go up half a size.
- If you fall between two sizes, choose the larger one.
For complete certainty, book an appointment in store to measure with a standard ring gauge and try on the real piece.
